Alex update-
5,000 islet cells were removed from Alex’s pancreas and transplanted into his liver just now. In addition to the pancreas, the spleen, appendix, gallbladder, and a portion of the small intestines have been removed. The gi tract has been reconstructed, and a gj feeding tube has been placed.
Currently, drains are being placed, insulin is being adjusted, blood products are being infused, and then the surgeon will be closing. Surgery started at 7:30am, and should be finished in about 1 1/2-2hours.
Alex has remained stable through the procedure and will be in intensive care for the next couple of weeks.
Thank you all for your prayers and support!! It has meant the world to Alex, me, and my entire family!!
