Once a month, Elena gets to see her friends at Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital for a clinic visit. She loves socializing and impressing the doctors and nurses with her progress. They check her weight (getting closer to 22 lbs every day!), her blood pressure and take a peek at the exit site for her Peritoneal Dialysis (PD) catheter. Elena has been so strong and resilient, tolerating the PD and the associated challenges like a warrior! It is a very tiring morning for her, and she usually takes a nice looooooong nap once she gets home. We have been so lucky that this is usually the extent of Elena’s doctor’s visits each month. Sometimes she has to go in a little more frequently, but overall, she is happy to check in once a month and spend the rest of her time hanging out with friends and family, far away from children’s hospitals.
