Day 8 – Central Line Infection

Unfortunately, Everett has developed an infection at the exit site of his central line, which is used to administer his medications, nutrition, and other fluids directly into his body without having to poke him each time.

He is already on a full spectrum of antibiotics, and the wonderful staff at Duke have drawn labs from each lumen to make sure an infection isn’t present anywhere else. Since his platelets are low, he will take longer to heal, but they are changing the dressing each day and closely monitoring everything.

Thankfully, he’s still in great spirits and has spent most of the day blowing kisses to all the staff!
