Transplant Countdown – Day -7

Everett is still feeling well, but things have been a little more challenging on Day -7. Everett’s constant wiggling and rolling around has been placing additional pressure on his central line.

The central line is a port that was surgically installed in Everett’s chest on September 8th. We wrote about it in blog post Transplant Prep: Central Line. The line is used to provide chemo, medication, electrolytes, and stem cells directly into Everett’s body without having to poke him with needles every time.

While it’s great that he’s still so active, it is a serious danger if any part of the line kinks, collapses, breaks, or becomes infected. Haylee and the staff at Duke are hoping to find a solution soon to keep Everett’s continued playfulness from causing any real damage.
