Summer plans have been established, dates have been set, and all systems are a go. The biggest update is that Hayden’s nephrectomy (surgically removing the kidney) will be July 1st . This will take place in Kansas City at Children’s Mercy Hospital. Following the surgery, Hayden will remain at Children’s Mercy for 4-6 weeks for dialysis and monitoring. Once Hayden has been cleared to come back home, he will continue with dialysis at home until he is able to get a new kidney. Doctors are hoping that the viruses will get out of his system quickly and Hayden can get a new kidney within the year. Hayden has to be rid of the viruses for six months before he will be eligible for a new kidney.
