HAPPY 1ST BIRTHDAY PORTER!!!!

One year ago today we were blessed with our sweet Porter.  We cannot believe a year has already gone by and what a whirlwind of a year it has been.   Out of the last 365 days, Porter has been home all of 27 of those days.  The rest of the time, 338 days, has been spent in the hospital.   18 days in the NICU at UNC, 140 days in the PICU at UNC, and now 182 days at Texas Children’s Hospital.  He has proven to be a fighter every step of the way, beating odds, surprising us and his doctors.  Early on we were told Porter wouldn’t survive 6 months without a heart transplant, that everything that could be done has been done.  We’ve had discussions about planning his funeral and faced with the reality that there was a very good chance back in January that he wouldn’t make it.  Well, here we are, a year later and not only has he made it to his first birthday, he is growing, developing, and interacting.  He is making strides with PT and OT and getting stronger.  He grabbed his feet on the 19th for the first time ever.  Despite ALL the things Porter has been through this last year, he is happy all the time.  He melts our hearts with his amazingly huge smile.  He loves his tummy to be kissed and his feet tickled and has such a “go with the flow” personality.  We are blessed every day that we get to spend with him and cannot wait until we can all be home together.  Happy 1st Birthday little P!!!!  We LOVE you!
