Independence Day

Amy’s 4th of July is being spent in the Respiratory Acute Care Unit here at MGH. Today, she’s celebrating her independence from not being able to talk. I had a full blown conversation with her for the first time in over a month and it was so great! Her trach tube is still in, but they attached a device that moves the air differently so she can be heard when she tries to speak. There are still tubes in her nose as well, which are obviously uncomfortable for her. But otherwise, her vitals have been good, and she’s becoming more and more lucid.
She was excited to learn we’ve been raising more and more money for COTA and we also got to watch some Psych before I had to leave. It’s going to be baby steps from here on out, but Amy is tough as nails!
