Daniel’s Norwood

Stage I the Norwood procedure provides the patient with circulation to the body by using the right ventricle as the main pump and the circulation to the lungs comes from a shunt or conduit that is placed from an artery or from the right ventricle to the lungs. The images below show what the heart looks like after the first surgery

Daniel had the version on the left side on July 6,1999 by Dr. James Quintessenza, or Dr. Q for short. Below is Daniel after his first surgery. This scene is not unfamiliar to parents of children with congenital heart disease. God was gracious and Daniel pulled through this surgery and was released from hospital after about 30 days.
