6 month evaluation – check

Erin’s 6 month evaluation is in the books. For those of you who haven’t seen the videos click on the links below, Erin’s transplant friend Avery does an amazing job detailing what Erin’s evaluation involved. Paul reported earlier that Erin’s biopsy came back a0b0, meaning no acute rejection. While that remains true, the ‘blurry’ spot that showed up on the CT, along with a decrease in her lung function have the doctor concerned that Erin might have the start of bronchiolitis obliterans (BO), a type of chronic rejection. The only way to verify this diagnosis is to have an open lung biopsy, requiring them to open her back up. At this point they want to monitor her lung function more closely and if it continues to decline, we will be making an immediate trip to St. Louis. In the meantime, they have added an oral antibiotic to her regiment and we are bringing back the vest and albuterol treatments 3x per day. Suffice it to say, we are all more than a little scared. Fingers crossed, there is a small chance this could all be a result of a fungal infection.
