So just an update on Tyrel. He finally got out of the hospital and into our apartment, Wednesday. We will be here through the end of the year. He had a double lung transplant, September 15th. It was a 12 hour surgery. He had 7 chest tubes, spent a week in intensive care and the remaining time on the transplant floor. They had Ty up walking with all those tubes, by the third day. It was amazing! He had some trouble with his heart and ended up in AFib which they are controlling currently with medication. This is a fairly common problem, due to the placement of the new lungs and will just take some time for his heart to get used to it. We came home from the hospital about two weeks ago and unfortunately ended up back in the hospital when the upper right lobe of his lung collapsed. So, one more chest tube put back in and another week in the hospital. Everything looks great now and we have been home for 4 days!! His biggest comment every day is "Wow, I can breathe. I can get up in the morning and just clear my throat and breathe. It is amazing"!
We have a new addition to the family. A Mini-Aussie named Zeke. He and Ty love each other and he is a great company, not to mention that he needs walked several times a day, which is great exercise for Ty.
We have two days of appointments for the next few weeks. They will check his blood levels, do a chest x-ray and a lung funtion test at every appointment. He will move to once a week as long as everything is ok.
He is really looking forward to getting home and going fishing. He hasn't been able to do a lot of camping or fishing the last tew years and is really excited about being able to do these things again.
Thanks to everyone for all your prayers and support!!
