A lot can happen in 6 months!

September 20th, 2018!

It has been six months since Nick received his life-saving and life-altering kidney transplant–and since many of you have heard from us directly. Please accept our apologies for not getting to you all sooner!

It truly has taken these six months for us all to get rest, gain recovery, and get back to some semblance of normalcy.

So, what does that look like?

  • A banana with breakfast after a night of restful sleep.
  • Pizza–several slices–for lunch with friends.
  • Steak tips and potatoes–lots of potatoes–and green beans for dinner. And, going back for seconds!

Nick is doing incredibly well with his “new” kidney and is adjusting to his medication regimen. Fortunately, his anti-rejection medication is in pill-form (with one liquid) and, so far, we are blessed to say he has been able to attend outings, like games at Fenway, and remain healthy!

Nick is back to his senior year in his program at Salem State. He is back to baseball at Salem State and his Young Life youth group, and to exploring new internships (his favorite right now is working in the SSU equipment room). And, of course, he is committed to seeing his beloved Red Sox go to the World Series!! (I won’t go into detail here about his “discussions” at his appointments with his nephrologist, Dr. Ferguson, who is a Yankees fan!)

We are also happy to share that Nick’s champion, his kidney donor, Jake O’Neill, is not only doing well, but he just completed the Pan-Mass Challenge with his 2 sisters, raising over $14,000 for cancer research.  Jake and his sisters rode in honor of their amazing mom, Sue, who is herself battling cancer and with whom Nick shares a birthday!

While we have been on a “public” hiatus, we were blessed to have COTA for Pick Team Nick reach over $76,000. COTA’s assistance is for a lifetime, ensuring Nick will have access to his lifelong need for health insurance and medication.  For your prayers, your cards, your words of encouragement, your support–financial to COTA and emotional, spiritual and physical–we are seriously humbled and so, very, very grateful.

If you would, please keep Nick in your thoughts and prayers as he transitions this year to his “adult life” from school–and to whatever his amazing future may hold.

With gratitude, friendship and much love,

The Jarvis Family
