{"id":4,"date":"2020-11-09T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2020-11-09T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cota1.wpengine.com\/cotaforallieskidney\/our-story\/"},"modified":"2020-11-09T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"2020-11-09T00:00:00","slug":"our-story","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/cota.org\/cotaforallieskidney\/our-story\/","title":{"rendered":"Our Story"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>My name is Allie Gregory.&nbsp; In 2010, 11-year-old me received one of the most amazing gifts a person could receive &#8211; one that I never thought I would ever want, let alone *need*!&nbsp;&nbsp; This kidney, thanks to my oh-so-generous friend, has given me ten years that I may not have had otherwise.<\/p>\n<p>So, you are probably asking, &ldquo;Why do you need a fundraiser; haven&rsquo;t you already had a kidney transplant?&rdquo; Well, Kidneys are kinda like BMWs: they are expensive, and they don&rsquo;t last forever.&nbsp; If a transplanted kidney lasts more than ten years, the recipient is way ahead of the game.&nbsp; I will eventually need another used BMW&hellip; er&hellip; kidney.<\/p>\n<p>So, my family partnered with the Children&rsquo;s Organ Transplant Association (COTA) for assistance with transplant-related expenses.<\/p>\n<p>I would love to take y&rsquo;all with me on my never-dull journey through life. COTA also works with individuals of any age with a single-gene disorder such as Polycystic Kidney Disease, Cystic Fibrosis or Sickle Cell Disease. COTA is the nation&rsquo;s only fundraising organization solely dedicated to raising life-saving dollars in honor of transplant-needy families. 100% of each contribution made to COTA in honor of our patients helps meet transplant-related expenses.
