She was born on January 7<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">th<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, 2005 by emergency cesarean section due to a placental abruption. This caused Carly to <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">hemorrhage<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and lose blood flow to her kidneys for several hours prior to her being born. At the time of delivery, she had lost most of her blood volume and luckily received a blood transfusion shortly after delivery. Her kidneys suffered greatly and at 3 days old was flown to Phoenix Children&rsquo;s Hospital with the possibility of needing dialysis. We spent 3 weeks in the NICU as her kidneys slowly rebounded.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Carly <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">thankfully did not end up<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> needing dialysis and has been able to avoid it <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">for almost 15 years<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. She has been on medications since day one and as she has grown has needed to add more. We were told she would eventually need a kidney transplant. We were hoping it would be further down the line, but the time has come <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">as her kidneys are only functioning at 13% now<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Carly is a miracle in so many ways from being an In Vitro Fertilization baby to surviving her birth, other than her kidneys <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">failing<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> she <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">is an overall healthy typical teenager<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. She has been able to play volleyball for many years, and looks forward to playing in the future. We have been incredibly blessed the road has been this smooth <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">by avoiding dialysis and hospitalizations<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This will be a life changing event for all of us! <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As her mother I am a 100% match as her donor. We are praying and planning for the surgery to take place in the beginning of January 2020 sometime on or around her 15<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">th<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> birthday, if her kidneys allow. We will be at two different hospitals because she will need the specialist at Phoenix Children&rsquo;s Hospital while I will be with specialist at St. Joseph&rsquo;s Hospital.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Funds<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> are raised for COTA in honor of Carly and COTA&rsquo;s partnership with our family will last for her lifetime. COTA will assist Carly with transplant-related expenses like future medical costs as she transitions to adulthood with high insurance premiums and a lifetime of medications.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Thank you all for your prayers, love and support for Carly and our family.
