{"id":122,"date":"2025-05-07T19:01:57","date_gmt":"2025-05-07T19:01:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cota.org\/cotaforericliamsbattle\/?p=122"},"modified":"2025-05-07T19:01:59","modified_gmt":"2025-05-07T19:01:59","slug":"4-22-25-day-9-of-healing-journey","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cota.org\/cotaforericliamsbattle\/2025\/05\/07\/4-22-25-day-9-of-healing-journey\/","title":{"rendered":"4-22-25: Day 9 of Healing Journey"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Eric has had the most progressive days yet \u2014 and I\u2019m holding onto that with so much hope.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Over the weekend, Rafa stayed by Eric\u2019s side, giving me the chance to step away and recharge. Coming back refreshed made all the difference. Since then, I\u2019ve been helping Eric move his arms, stretch his legs and feet \u2014 every little motion made in anticipation of today. It feels good knowing that, together, Rafa and I have done everything we can to help get Eric to this point.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He\u2019s still a bit delirious \u2014 a side effect of the heavy immunosuppressants and steroids he\u2019s on \u2014 and there are moments where he won\u2019t speak to us or respond to our questions. It\u2019s hard, but we keep showing up, trying, hoping. He\u2019s also battling insomnia, which we\u2019ve learned is another frustrating side effect. Even with melatonin, sleep doesn\u2019t come easily. But I know he\u2019s trying. I know he\u2019s giving it everything he\u2019s got.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Today, he\u2019s heading back to IR (interventional radiology) to have a new PICC line placed. This time, it\u2019s not for meds \u2014 it\u2019s to remove his current arterial and central lines, which means more mobility and more accurate blood pressure readings, since the new line will sit closer to his heart.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Speaking of his heart \u2014 I got to see an echo of his new one, and wow. It\u2019s so different. There\u2019s a fully formed left ventricle and a right ventricle. I could have cried. Actually, I kind of did. To see that\u2026 to see that inside him\u2026 it\u2019s nothing short of a miracle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Every day is still a battle, but these moments?
