BUT we were able to get a heart biopsy done <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"16\" height=\"16\" src=\"https:\/\/cota.org\/fc53f738-0d38-4485-86e2-2ebde51fc83b\" alt=\"\u2764\ufe0f\u200d\ud83e\ude79\">which helps us monitor for rejection, and so far his heart is doing well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We also learned Eric has CMV, a common but serious virus for transplant patients. It was caught early (thankfully while we\u2019re still in the hospital) and treatment has begun.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We\u2019re learning a lot about his new normal:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2022 No swimming in lakes, pools, or hot tubs<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2022 No grapefruit, pomegranate, Sunny D, or anything with those juices<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2022 No NSAIDs (like ibuprofen)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2022 No buffets\u2014he was pretty sad about the Chinese buffet one<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>All of this is to protect his immune system and make sure his new heart keeps working for a long, long time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He\u2019s still not talking much, but he\u2019s trying more each day. His strength amazes me.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One important reminder:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you\u2019re planning to visit Eric, please be 100% healthy. If you\u2019re sick or have been around someone who is\u2014please wait. His immune system is fragile, and we can\u2019t risk anything.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Thank you for continuing to love and support our boy.
