Play room<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Down the elevator to the left, 
court yard.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Home\u2026
for now.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And some days
she is mad about it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She says
\u201cDon\u2019t talk to me.\u201d
\u201cNo more listening.\u201d
\u201cNo more checks.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She kicks.
She yells.
She cries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And people might see that
and think it\u2019s anger.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But I see something else.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I see a little girl
who has carried more
than most hearts ever should.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Because Evelyn\u2019s heart
is tired.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Not weak.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Not broken.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Just\u2026 tired.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tired from trying to keep up
with a spirit
that refuses to slow down.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A spirit that still laughs
when she wakes up from sedation
and the first thing she asks is,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cCan you DoorDash me Chinese food?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Because even in a hospital bed
even with IV lines<\/p>\n\n\n\n

even after a long day of procedures
she is still
so completely
Evelyn.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Funny.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Stubborn.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Brave in the kind of way
that fills an entire room.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Right now
her name sits on a list.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A list we pray over.
A list we wait on.
A list that holds a miracle
we cannot see yet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Somewhere out there
another family\u2019s story
will one day cross ours.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Their heartbreak
will become
our hope.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Their goodbye
will become
Evelyn\u2019s tomorrow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And that kind of gift
changes you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So until that day comes
we wait.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We build a life
inside hospital walls.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We celebrate good labs
like birthdays.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We hold our breath
during echoes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We memorize the rhythm
of machines
that echo the rhythm
of her heart.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Because every single beat
is saying the same thing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Still here.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Still fighting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Still waiting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And one day
when the phone finally rings
this hospital<\/p>\n\n\n\n

that has held our hardest days
will watch Evelyn leave.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A little taller.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A little stronger.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Carrying a brand new rhythm
