Gillian has had a pretty rough morning. With the islet cell transplant they need to give extra fluids. Her body wasn\u2019t able to keep up with the fluids, so she had a little fluid overload early this morning. To help her body process some of the fluids a little better they gave her some Lasix, which is a diuretic. Her body couldn\u2019t process the fluids fast enough and it started to accumulate in her lungs, rapidly. The excess fluid just started dumping into her lungs, which is called Flash Pulmonary Edema. It\u2019s pretty scary for her (and us), she feels like she is drowning while alarms are going off, codes are being called and everyone around her is rushing to get the right things in place. They had to give her a few different medications to help her lungs and then placed her on a BIPAP machine which helps over-inflate her lungs to help push some of that fluid out. It took a little bit but she is responding well and hopefully won\u2019t need to be intubated again. Her incredible nurses have been on top of their game, responding quickly to get her oxygen saturation numbers back to where they need to be. We are so grateful for the care she is getting here and for all the incredible people at Nationwide that are caring for our sweet Gilli \ud83d\udc9c Please pray for Gillian \ud83d\udc9c The hope is that she will be able to ween off a little at a time over the next 24hrs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
