Colten was born 6 weeks early with a Hypoplastic Right Heart Syndrome. The right side of his heart was under developed and wasn’t big enough to pump oxygen to the rest of his body. At 7 days old weighing 4 lbs he had his first open heart surgery. By the time he was two he had a total of 3 open heart surgeries, septic twice. Only to endure multiple minor surgeries by the time he was 3 years old. Colten’s condition requires frequent monitoring and makes him more susceptible to illnesses.<\/p>\n
Colten is the sweetest and kindest of souls! He puts others’ needs and feelings in front of his own. He has had to be isolated most of his childhood while only wanting to have friends of his own. Colten loves his little brother and cousins. His Mimi is his absolute favorite that he shares all of his secrets with and conspires with on their next adventure!<\/p>\n
Unfortunately, Colten’s heart is not fixed. He needs a life saving heart transplant in the near future. His transplant will take place at Children’s Hospital in St. Louis when the time comes. There are so many costs that health insurance doesn’t cover. So many things to worry about for our boy but money shouldn’t be one of them.
