We started our day off before daylight and it was pouring rain. Not the best kind of weather for in and out of the car and across the parking lots! But we set off for an adventure! The first day I have ever been to a doctors appointment with no makeup and a hat on but cold and yucky weather called for that! ;0)

We started our day off bright and early at the hematologist. To be honest this was an appointment that I was way out of my comfort zone going to and really had no idea why I was there. For those of you that aren’t familiar with ACH, hematology is also known as the Hematology/oncology unit. That in itself is a little scary and intimidating to me. But, I put on my big smile and arrive bright and early praying for good news and that maybe we are just there as a requirement for being placed on the transplant list soon.

So when the doctor comes in she tells me Jacob is just not the usual case…….I think we have heard that from each doctor that we have ever seen! In NICU, Jacob was called the puzzle baby because he was like a puzzle with no cover picture and no edges or corner pieces. Jacob has had his doctors shaking their heads and going back to text books that havent been looked at in several years. Jacob is our little miracle baby to say the least! So then she tells me that Jacob’s red blood cells are larger than normal. She gave me several different possibilities and reasons why this could be but nothing really fit the perfect mold. One thing is a genetic disorder that could have been passed onto him at birth. The good news it can be treated BUT the not so great news is one way to test it is a simple urine test but for Jacob, who doesnt produce urine at all, that is impossible. She did take A LOT of blood and she is running several different test including that genetic test and she will also be looking at his blood cell under a microscope to see what she can find. She did tell me not to google it because that would not be a good thing but I had to be honest and told her that I already had done that. She said again, Jacob isnt the usual case so don’t listen to google!!!! What she did next was priceless. She asked to pray with us. She PRAYED for my Jacob! She held my baby and prayed for God’s will for him, she prayed for our family, she prayed for the others that Jacobs story reaches and she prayed God’s hands be on him at all times. She PRAYED for us! Do I think that her pray was any more important than my prayers for Jacob? No! Do I think that God listened to her prayer any more than he does my prayers? No! But did I feel like she is doing a job that God called her to do and that she cared for my baby like he was her only patient ever? YES! She took her time, she explained everything to me in detail and I know that she serves the same God that I do. I also know that she studied long and hard to get to that place in her career but I know that she also has a faith and Saviour that guides her and has His hands on my baby boy too! Let me tell ya, if you don’t have a Dr. Mack in your life, find ya one! Hematogy is not the clinic I want to visit often but that sweet spirit and her team is something that this stressed and tired momma needs more of and more of often! SO thank you Dr Mack and all of your team. Your precious nurses were top notch too!

To the one that took his blood and the one that held his hand, THANK YOU! He was a champ but those two ladies were AMAZING! She asked if she could sing to him and he shook his head. She didn’t just sing the abc’s or twinkle twinkle little star, she sang Kermit the Frogs Rainbow Connections in her most calm and soft voice. Jacob just listened and watched every move she made and not once shed a tear. She was another angel placed in that unit for us.

I left that clinic yesterday with a whole different attitude than the one I arrived having. I left with a smile, a happy heart, a calmness knowing that everything will be ok.

Please continue to pray for our Jacob and our family. Pray for those that read Jacob’s story, meet him at the hospital, and for those that are treating him and trying to put the pieces of his puzzle together. But please pray today too for the two families that have lost their loved ones this week. One unexpectedly and one that has been fighting a battle for a few years and is now no longer in pain. His wife was one of our nurses at the hospital and she now has to face many more difficult days of her own. I know that both of these families are believers and I know that both of these men are in the presence of Jesus but that still doesn’t fill the void they left behind.

Yesterday we had several appointments to attend at the hospital.
