Jake continues to heal, but healing doesn’t just happen by accident. It is because God has provided Jake this miraculous gift and Jake is fiercely fighting to seize it. He is determined to get stronger every single day. His schedule is full, and he is attacking it with everything he has.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He is working diligently with Speech Therapy on swallowing, strength and regaining his voice. We are praying for the eventual removal of the NG tube. Currently, the tube is the only way he can receive nutrition and meds. We are asking God to restore his ability to swallow safely so he can eat and drink again. He is begging the therapist for water and applesauce. He is also working with OT to regain strength and dexterity in his right arm, which was affected by the stroke he suffered post-ECMO. We are holding on for a full recovery of his arm. With PT, he was able to go for a walk in the hallway today for the first time in 4 weeks! Leaving the four walls of his room felt like a massive expedition. Watching him take those steps was a beautiful reminder of how far the Lord has brought us.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We are also seeing great progress with his lungs. He is completely off the “high flow” oxygen during the day and is now just using a standard nasal cannula! This gives him the freedom to move about the room without being tethered. Even his nights are getting better as he has been able to downgrade from the full CPAP machine to using just the high flow overnight.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As we reflect on this week, we have to pause. We are simply in complete and utter awe. The outpouring of love, prayers, and encouragement we have received is unlike anything we have ever experienced. We sit in this hospital room, reading your messages and watching your videos, and are moved. When this journey feels like too much or when we feel like there is no end in sight, your love shines like a beacon of light. We feel unworthy of such incredible generosity, yet we are eternally grateful for it. You are the faithful community that uplifts us daily, and we know your love is a vital part of Jake’s healing. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jake\u2019s next Cardiac Cath biopsy is scheduled for bright and early Monday morning. The stakes for this one feel higher in the best way possible. If these results come back negative for rejection, we will get to move to the next stage of recovery, meaning biopsy caths will move to every 2 weeks instead of weekly. That would be a huge victory both physically and emotionally. Please pray for a restful weekend of hard work and “negative” results on Monday!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
