Last night, Jake was able to have three of his five chest tubes removed! His surgeon reviewed the morning X-ray and is very happy with how things are progressing. We are still focused on the right upper lobe, waiting for the pneumothorax to resolve, but seeing those three tubes go is a huge step. We continue to pray for our Christmas miracle of lung healing, and it feels like we are on our way.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This morning, we were able to spend some time together as a family of 5. While this holiday isn\u2019t filled with the usual Christmas lights, a home-cooked meal, and opening gifts with family, we are looking to everything we do have. Because of special holiday rules, kids under 12 are allowed to visit for a few days, which has been such a gift. And because of a selfless donor and their family, Jake is on his way to a heart healthy life for first time in his 17 years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tonight, we\u2019re planning a “hospital version” of a Christmas Eve movie night. It\u2019s not the living room sofa, but we are together, and that is what matters. As we have encountered a series of speed bumps (dome of which felt more like mountains) Jake has proven that there isn’t a hurdle he cannot overcome. Even when the pace is slower than we want, the direction is always forward. And in the very best news of all; his new heart and liver continue to work amazingly. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you have a special moment tonight, please say a special prayer for Jake. He misses home and misses the independence he had. The weight of this long recovery is heavy on him. Please pray that he can see the incredible progress he has made, just as we see it, and that he would not be discouraged. Pray for his spirit to be lifted and for him to feel the “second wind” of hope.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
