Lincoln\u2019s labs started looking a little wonky last week, so some medication changes were made and labs were redone this past Wednesday. These results showed little improvement, so we got admitted Friday morning after Lincoln underwent a liver biopsy.
<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The purpose of the liver biopsy was to see why Lincoln\u2019s liver function tests were elevated. It was a quick needle poke and he was ready to play right after the procedure. This little boy is able to make all situations into a good time! There were many results that could have come from this biopsy: rejection, bile stasis, viral infection, post-transplant lymphoproliferative disorder.
<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Today, our surgeon let us know that the biopsy did not show rejection (yay!) but did show signs of bile stasis. Overall, the liver is healthy and there are no signs of infection. However, the bile stasis needs to be managed as to not cause infection or damage to the liver. So, we are going to be set up for a procedure that will examine the flow of bile out of Lincoln\u2019s liver to see if there are any blockages around the connection point of Lincoln\u2019s bile ducts and the small intestine.
<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If there is a partial or complete blockage of the bile duct connection point, Lincoln will get a balloon to keep the area open and a drain to monitor the drainage of bile. There\u2019s a chance Lincoln keeps this drain and drainage bag for a few months, but it should resolve the issue and will come out at some point.
<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Not amazing news, but at least we have some answers and a treatment plan. This does mean more surgery, hospital stays, and lab draws, though. Lincoln\u2019s summer may look a little different, but he\u2019ll still have so much fun! Hospital stays with a toddler are definitely not for the weak. This man wants to pull everything, eat everything, and run around everywhere! Please keep Lincoln (and mom and dad\u2019s sanity) in your thoughts and prayers \u2764\ufe0f<\/p>\n\n\n\n
