One Step Closer to Home<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Over the past few days, Magnolia has been working so hard on her recovery. She spiked a fever and was placed on several IV antibiotics because her medical team couldn\u2019t determine the cause. But today, six days later, her family received some incredible news: Magnolia has now been weaned off all of her IV medications and TPN (Total Parenteral Nutrition). This is a huge step toward getting discharged<\/strong> and finally bringing Magnolia home.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This past Monday, Magnolia had an MRCP, a more detailed type of MRI, which showed some fluid around her liver. The infectious disease team had several concerns about this, but after reviewing the scan, her transplant team decided not to intervene right now and instead monitor the fluid periodically through ultrasounds. Over the next couple of weeks to months, they will determine whether she needs any additional treatment or, if necessary, another surgery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For now, the team believes leaving it alone is the best option because draining it would increase her risk of infection. So, for now, her family rejoices in knowing that Magnolia will simply be closely monitored.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Things only got better when her family finally heard the words they have been praying for:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cYou\u2019ll be discharged.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Those words brought tears to their eyes and a knot to their throats. After everything Magnolia has endured, hearing that she may finally be getting closer to home feels almost unreal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Her family is praying that her labs continue to look great and that these final steps go smoothly so they can finally walk out of the hospital with their baby girl.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Un paso m\u00e1s cerca de casa<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Durante los \u00faltimos d\u00edas, Magnolia ha estado trabajando con todas sus fuerzas en su recuperaci\u00f3n. Tuvo fiebre y fue puesta bajo tratamiento con varios antibi\u00f3ticos intravenosos, ya que su equipo m\u00e9dico no pod\u00eda determinar la causa. Pero hoy, seis d\u00edas despu\u00e9s, su familia recibi\u00f3 una noticia incre\u00edble: Magnolia ya ha podido dejar todos sus medicamentos intravenosos y la nutrici\u00f3n parenteral total (TPN). Este es un enorme paso hacia recibir el alta<\/strong> y finalmente poder llevar a Magnolia a casa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

El lunes pasado, Magnolia tuvo un MRCP, un tipo de resonancia magn\u00e9tica m\u00e1s detallada, que mostr\u00f3 cierta acumulaci\u00f3n de l\u00edquido alrededor de su h\u00edgado. El equipo de enfermedades infecciosas ten\u00eda varias preocupaciones al respecto, pero despu\u00e9s de revisar las im\u00e1genes, su equipo de trasplante decidi\u00f3 no intervenir por el momento y, en su lugar, monitorear el l\u00edquido peri\u00f3dicamente por medio de ultrasonidos. Durante las pr\u00f3ximas semanas o meses, determinar\u00e1n si necesita alg\u00fan tratamiento adicional o, de ser necesario, otra cirug\u00eda.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Por ahora, el equipo m\u00e9dico considera que dejarlo as\u00ed es la mejor opci\u00f3n, ya que drenar el l\u00edquido aumentar\u00eda su riesgo de infecci\u00f3n. As\u00ed que, por el momento, su familia se alegra al saber que Magnolia simplemente ser\u00e1 monitoreada muy de cerca.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Y las buenas noticias no terminaron ah\u00ed, porque despu\u00e9s su familia finalmente escuch\u00f3 las palabras por las que tanto hab\u00edan estado orando:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Esas palabras trajeron l\u00e1grimas a sus ojos y un nudo en la garganta. Despu\u00e9s de todo lo que Magnolia ha soportado, escuchar que finalmente podr\u00eda estar cada vez m\u00e1s cerca de regresar a casa se siente casi irreal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
