Shawn is a funny, smart, and incredibly strong 15-year-old. He loves technology, music, and spending time with his family. Anyone who knows Shawn knows that he has a quiet strength about him \u2014 the kind that comes from facing challenges most kids never have to experience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Shawn\u2019s medical journey began early in life when he was diagnosed with a complex intestinal disorder that prevents his digestive system from working properly. Over the years, he has endured multiple surgeries, hospitalizations, and complications as doctors have worked to help his body function as normally as possible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Despite every effort, Shawn eventually developed intestinal failure, meaning his body can no longer absorb the nutrients it needs to survive. For much of his life he has relied on TPN (IV nutrition) delivered through a central line to keep him alive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
While TPN has been life-saving, it has also led to serious complications. Over time, Shawn developed advanced liver disease and severe portal hypertension, along with other complex medical challenges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Through all of this, Shawn has shown incredible resilience. He continues to push forward with courage, patience, and determination that inspires everyone around him. A life-saving transplant will give Shawn the opportunity for improved health and stability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Our family is hopeful for the future and incredibly grateful for the support, encouragement, and prayers we have already received. Every person who stands beside Shawn during this journey helps give him the strength to keep fighting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
