Thank you all for your support and prayers for Myka Joy over the last month, as her “Liver Numbers” have been elevated.  Here’s a brief update of where we’re at, after several ups and downs here in the New Year.<\/p>\n

1) As you may already know, Myka’s biopsy from January 23rd came back negative with NO REJECTION<\/strong>!  We’re so grateful that the procedure showed her new liver is continually being received by her body.<\/p>\n

2) After her ultrasound, biopsy and more bloodwork, the doctors determined that they would prescribe her a new medicine (Ursodiol) that she had been on previously.  Given the possible inflammation of her bile ducts that is making her liver “angry,” this new med will work at thinning the bile and decreasing the inflammation.  They want to avoid a PTC procedure (like MJ had in 2017) at all costs, so that Myka doesn’t need to carry around a bile bag for months.<\/p>\n

3) Myka’s “Liver Numbers” came down slightly after bloodowork last week, but her doctors still wanted to explore the elevated levels with an MRCP<\/a> (specialized MRI with intravenous contrast) this week.<\/p>\n

4) They were able to squeeze MJ in for her MRCP first thing this morning<\/span>.  It was a bonus that they were able to do bloodwork while she was asleep!  After waking up groggy and angry, she recovered nicely from the anesthesia and was able to eat Chick-fil-A at home for lunch.<\/p>\n

5) While we won’t receive the MRCP results until next week, her healthcare team is already very pleased with the fact that her “liver numbers” are beginning to trend back down after this morning’s bloodwork<\/span>.  While Myka’s not out of the woods yet with these elevated numbers, we’re SUPER encouraged!  The ursodiol med seems to be working after being on it for a couple of weeks.<\/p>\n
