Surgery update #4"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The ideal amount of islets collected is at least 5000 per kg, My had just 1300. While this doesn\u2019t mean they won\u2019t work out in the liver, it\u2019s obviously not what you hope for. We knew this would be likely due to how dead My\u2019s pancreas already was. They will come back later and let us know how strong\/healthy those islets are. They are preparing to transplant the islets and depending on how many the liver will accept and\/or how high the pressure within the main artery gets, will play into how much time the transplant will take. Christie said generally it\u2019s 15 minutes to 1 hour. Once that is complete, Christie will come back out and talk us through the health of the islets and how the transplant went. She\u2019ll also give us all the info on the PICU.
