7\/18\/2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Daniel has been doing his 24 hour diabetes cares. Which is an abridged version of what I did just a few days ago. He helps figure out how much insulin to give (double signed by two others either doctors or nurses), calls out each blood sugar check, monitors blood sugars, counts carbs, and all that fun stuff. His night with Mylin during the cares went a lot like mine. Mylins blood sugars were pretty high all night. They had to do 2 separate bolus applications and several basal checks. Daniel said he got less than 2 hours of sleep (sounds about right).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mylin did really well today. The nausea was at bay, and while the pain is still there, in has lessened quite a bit! They have eaten all 3 meals, and added weight gain shakes. Sounds like My will get to go off of feeds tomorrow night! Also, sounds like Monday is pretty solidified for Mylin\u2019s discharge date! We\u2019ll be needing a moving truck for all Mylin\u2019s cards and gifts lol. We are so thankful for all of your support! You have brought such brightness to Mylin\u2019s difficult days here.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Daniel also signed off on starting the 24 hour GI Cares. This means he\u2019ll learn to do everything else for My too. He will call out for mediations every time they are needed (which is every 2 hours for the full 24 hours). He will administer medications, which some My will swallow and others will go through the J-tube (so he will also have to do J-tube flushes). He\u2019ll hook up the nightly feeds tonight. Basically he\u2019ll be doing it all. It\u2019s good practice, because sadly, I leave Monday. The very day he\u2019ll be moving into the Ronald McDonald House with Mylin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Since Daniel works from home, it\u2019s a little easier for him to be here longer. I worked a ton of overtime hours before I left to set me up for being gone. Now I have to go back and play catchup again. It\u2019s going to be super hard to leave My. It\u2019s also going to be exhausting to adjust to the 3 hour difference time zone only to fly back in a week and a half. I don\u2019t have any flights scheduled back to Ohio after that next trip, because we are hoping My will come home Mid-August. Between now and then Daniel will go home only one time and just for a few short days. Whichever one of us is here will be continuing everything we learned during our cares (both GI and diabetes) as well as walking My across the street from the Ronald McDonald House to Nationwide for daily doctor appointments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If feeds for sure come off tomorrow, we will switch the insulin pump to automatic mode. The DISC team had told us several times this will make our lives much easier. I am hoping we get to do that during the day tomorrow so we can get some good practice with it before being discharged.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s utterly amazing how fast My has moved through the stages here. Things have still been tough, as you have read while following along, but better than drs thought they would go given the level of atrophy Mylin had. We are so thankful. We are also soooo tired physically and mentally. It doesn\u2019t matter how much we researched and read and prepared. Living this recovery is something you don\u2019t know until you\u2019re in it, and we aren\u2019t the ones who had surgery!! I wish there was a way to fly back and forth more often for me. Especially now that I know we are going home with the continuation of alarms going off every two hours. I feel horrible Daniel will be on his on for a week and a half at a time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I\u2019m going to try to talk Daniel into taking over the blog while he is alone here, but you may just have to hear my version of the info he gives me. We will continue to do our best to update and share, both for all of you amazing ones who have supported us and for people who may be going or will go through what Mylin has.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
