Mylin’s sugar stayed elevated for a while last night and I stayed awake till a little after midnight when the correction started to do its job and I could relax. Still not a full night’s sleep to be had, but still better than the hospital. We had a slower start this morning. Mylin woke up feeling a bit dizzy and didn’t want to come down to breakfast with me. They also want to sleep in and don’t love me waking them up for medication \ud83d\ude42 After I ate and went back upstairs they hadn’t fallen back asleep and said they would eat now. Any morning we wake up without nausea I call a victory, especially given that was a near daily experience pre surgery. We went back down and got them breakfast. The breakfast’s at Ronald McDonald House are getting a bit monotonous. Eggs, bacon, and pancakes most days. BUT, Mylin didn’t eat the pancake because it was dry. That made it a low carb breakfast, which I love for its simplicity to manage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Right before noon Mylin’s sugar started dropping. We were walking down to eat lunch at just that time so I left it be. It was reading 74 when we sat down with food. When we entered the carb bolus on the insulin pump it reduced the insulin based on the current low reading. 15-20 minutes after eating Mylin’s blood sugar was right back in range. The afternoon was quiet and uneventful.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
When dinner time rolled around I was really excited to see they had cards with the nutrition info!! Carb counting cheat code \ud83d\ude00. My excitement was tamped down a bit once Mylin only took 3 bites and said it was making them feel nauseous. I got them to eat some sourdough toast instead, and that was easy to track. Overall My has done really good today, but they definitely have less energy then yesterday. They just felt worse in general tonight with more pain and nausea. This tracks with how recovery has ebbed and flowed so far. You get a day like yesterday, and it’s tempting to think you are almost 100%, but the reality is it’s still just over 3 weeks after surgery and fully recovery takes close to a year. Still, I ended the day feeling thankful again. One crazy thing is that you can always see when they are in pain by the sugar levels. The uplift at the end here is right when they started feeling bad. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Side note: listening to Mylin play video games with their sisters on FaceTime earlier in the day blessed my farts (yes that’s a Schaaff Damion saying lol)<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
