Not only is it a month dedicated to heart warriors like Sabrina, but it\u2019s also her birthday month <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" height=\"16\" width=\"16\" alt=\"\ud83c\udf82\" src=\"https:\/\/static.xx.fbcdn.net\/images\/emoji.php\/v9\/ta4\/2\/16\/1f382.png\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This picture pretty much sums up life lately. We are finally over RSV as a household (praise <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" height=\"16\" width=\"16\" alt=\"\ud83d\ude4c\" src=\"https:\/\/static.xx.fbcdn.net\/images\/emoji.php\/v9\/t9c\/2\/16\/1f64c.png\">) and slowly settling into what might be our new normal. We still have twice-weekly home nurse visits and lots of appointments, but Sabrina has had follow-ups since being sick and RSV did NOT affect her heart function at all \u2014 a huge win <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" height=\"16\" width=\"16\" alt=\"\ud83d\udcaa\" src=\"https:\/\/static.xx.fbcdn.net\/images\/emoji.php\/v9\/tb\/2\/16\/1f4aa.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" height=\"16\" width=\"16\" alt=\"\ud83d\udc97\" src=\"https:\/\/static.xx.fbcdn.net\/images\/emoji.php\/v9\/t9\/2\/16\/1f497.png\"> Her heart looks exactly the same as it did when she left the hospital, and we\u2019re so encouraged by that <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" height=\"16\" width=\"16\" alt=\"\u2728\" src=\"https:\/\/static.xx.fbcdn.net\/images\/emoji.php\/v9\/t75\/2\/16\/2728.png\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We\u2019ve gotten used to the medication schedule <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" height=\"16\" width=\"16\" alt=\"\ud83d\udc8a\" src=\"https:\/\/static.xx.fbcdn.net\/images\/emoji.php\/v9\/t94\/2\/16\/1f48a.png\"> and she\u2019s even been able to reduce one of her meds (not the daily amount, just how many times a day), which we\u2019re trialing now <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" height=\"16\" width=\"16\" alt=\"\ud83e\udd1e\" src=\"https:\/\/static.xx.fbcdn.net\/images\/emoji.php\/v9\/t84\/2\/16\/1f91e.png\"> She had an echocardiogram last Friday and her heart function is around 28%, which is where it\u2019s been for months \u2014 that\u2019s Sabrina\u2019s normal <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" height=\"16\" width=\"16\" alt=\"\ud83d\udc9c\" src=\"https:\/\/static.xx.fbcdn.net\/images\/emoji.php\/v9\/t35\/2\/16\/1f49c.png\"> For context, a healthy heart is usually between 55\u201370%, so we\u2019re still low, but she is doing really well right now <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" height=\"16\" width=\"16\" alt=\"\ud83d\udc97\" src=\"https:\/\/static.xx.fbcdn.net\/images\/emoji.php\/v9\/t9\/2\/16\/1f497.png\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Most of all, she\u2019s absolutely loving being home <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" height=\"16\" width=\"16\" alt=\"\ud83e\udd70\" src=\"https:\/\/static.xx.fbcdn.net\/images\/emoji.php\/v9\/t89\/2\/16\/1f970.png\"> And her big brother is THRILLED to have his sister back \u2014 always first in line for hugs, kisses, and playtime <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" height=\"16\" width=\"16\" alt=\"\ud83d\udc95\" src=\"https:\/\/static.xx.fbcdn.net\/images\/emoji.php\/v9\/t7\/2\/16\/1f495.png\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Right now we\u2019re in a gray season on the 1B transplant waiting list <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" height=\"16\" width=\"16\" alt=\"\u23f3\" src=\"https:\/\/static.xx.fbcdn.net\/images\/emoji.php\/v9\/t38\/2\/16\/23f3.png\"> The timeline is hard and uncertain, so our hope is simply to keep Sabrina stable for a long time and trust that the perfect heart will come at the perfect time <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" height=\"16\" width=\"16\" alt=\"\ud83d\udc9c\" src=\"https:\/\/static.xx.fbcdn.net\/images\/emoji.php\/v9\/t35\/2\/16\/1f49c.png\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So we\u2019re choosing to focus on the good \u2014 and right now, this is it &#8211; Sitting in our messy living room with our two kids, doing nothing but playing on a blanket together <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" height=\"16\" width=\"16\" alt=\"\ud83e\uddf8\" src=\"https:\/\/static.xx.fbcdn.net\/images\/emoji.php\/v9\/tc2\/2\/16\/1f9f8.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" height=\"16\" width=\"16\" alt=\"\ud83d\udc9e\" src=\"https:\/\/static.xx.fbcdn.net\/images\/emoji.php\/v9\/t37\/2\/16\/1f49e.png\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s everything.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"768\" height=\"1024\" src=\"https:\/\/cota.org\/cotaforsabrinaschangeofheart\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6656\/2026\/02\/photo-41-768x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-191\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cota.org\/cotaforsabrinaschangeofheart\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6656\/2026\/02\/photo-41-768x1024.jpg 768w, https:\/\/cota.org\/cotaforsabrinaschangeofheart\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6656\/2026\/02\/photo-41-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/cota.org\/cotaforsabrinaschangeofheart\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6656\/2026\/02\/photo-41-1152x1536.jpg 1152w, https:\/\/cota.org\/cotaforsabrinaschangeofheart\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6656\/2026\/02\/photo-41.jpg 1536w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 768px) 100vw, 768px\" \/><\/figure>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Happy Heart Month This is our very first year as a family even realizing that February is Heart Month \u2014 and it\u2019s already going to be such a special one for us.
