Shantel went into the OR at 5:45am. They gave the lab the heads up. Pancreas came be out around 11am. There was probably another 8-9 hours but things are going well.

The doctor came out around 1:30pm and said pancreas and spleen have been removed, Pancreas went to the lab having the islets extracted and Dr. Nathan is reconstructing her GI tract. She’s giving an estimated time of midnight for when Jodi would be able to see Shantel. She did have a lot of scar tissue and adhesion of the pancreas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The lab came back at 9pm that the Islet cells have been infused. They were able to get 6,000 islet cells per 1 kilo of body weight. They said anything over 5,000 is ideal. Now it will depend on how strong they are and how many survive. Still a couple hours out until Jodi can see her but her vitals remained stable the entire time. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Everything is looking good and surgery is finishing up.
