Amiaya Brown is a light to everyone she meets. She is a bright, determined 13-year-old preparing to undergo a bone marrow transplant this summer to cure her sickle cell disease, with her 4-year-old brother serving as her donor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Sickle cell disease has taken away many traditional childhood experiences, such as consistent in-person school, friendships, and extracurricular activities, but Amiaya has never allowed those challenges to stop her from dreaming big or excelling. She plans to attend college by 16, continue on to medical school, and become a Pediatric Cardiothoracic Surgeon. Being cured of sickle cell disease is the first major step toward making those dreams a reality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
