God is good!  I certainly did not think we would be updating so soon!<\/span><\/p>\n

Alice was flown to Stanford Friday afternoon and underwent her transplant surgery through the night.  This morning she is in recovery, without complications, and hopefully Mom and Dad have laid down for a nap!  Now starts the long process of recovery and anti rejection drugs and check ups.  She will likely be living in Stanford for the next few months. If you are in a position to make a tax deductible donation at this time, we ask you think of COTA!  This national non profit is such a godsend to families dealing with organ transplant!  It can be done through our website securely.<\/span><\/p>\n

The summer was a roller coaster ride but our story picks up here:<\/span><\/div>\n
 <\/div>\n
Alice is now on the list (at a 30 PELD) awaiting a liver transplant at Stanford’s Lucile Salter- Packard Children’s Hospital! COTA help arrange the trip and funds from COTA made the second opinion possible!  Our insurance has approved the facility and operation.  Alice and I will be moving to the Stanford campus’ Ronald McDonald house to await a liver.  At a PELD of 30, transplant could be very soon!<\/span><\/div>\n

More good news! Stanford performed tests and Alice can accept a liver from blood types O, A & B!  This gives her so many more opportunities for a life saving transplant in time!  If you were considering being a live donor and blood type prevented further pursuit, please consider screening now.  The Stanford link is : https:\/\/stanfordhealthcare.org\/medical-treatments\/l\/liver-transplant\/types\/living-donors.html<\/a> <\/span><\/div>\n

Of course, the higher the PELD and the higher up the transplant list one moves, the sicker they are.   Alice struggles with fluid retention that crowds her lungs, jaundice and itchiness due to the liver issues.  She is able to take more volume on her feeds and is off the feed for longer times.  She also enjoys some table food which is a great victory when a child is on a feeding tube – many struggle with food aversion.  The lack of aversion will benefit her post transplant in her journey to healthy young child!<\/span><\/div>\n
