They say \u2018no news is good news\u2019 and sometimes that is true. Other times, as has been our experience, the whiplash from good news to bad news is as frequent as a teenager\u2019s mood swings!! We have been home for almost two months now and are beyond grateful to have everyone under the same roof (until Sunday when David heads back for his senior year of college!). Erin\u2019s lungs continue to be strong, but we\u2019ve had some scares. Her lung function dropped significantly and there was real concern that the lungs were rejecting. Turns out, her GI system is so messed up that it was, and still is, impeding her lung function on a regular basis and causing significant pain.\u00a0 The complications that come with transplants are no joke. Yes, you have a second chance at life (or a third!) but you have traded one complication for another, and often more. And while those new complications may not be life threatening like prior to transplant, they take a toll none the less. Erin\u2019s GI complications affect not only her lung function, but her diabetes, her migraines, her weight, her mental health and above all her overall quality of life. This first year is ALWAYS hard – from recovery to living with a severely compromised immune system to lots and lots of appointments to finding a new normal.
