Her medical team was hopeful that the surgery could wait so that she would be older and stronger for it. For a couple months it seemed like this was going to be feasible, until January when they realized that Gracie&rsquo;s lack of a true pulmonary artery was causing her lungs to become very sick. She needed heart surgery right away.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Stanford Children&rsquo;s Hospital in California is the most knowledgeable medical team when it comes to MAPCAs. For this reason, Grace needed to fly out to California for heart surgery. There was no one else who could do it. The medical teams in Cincinnati and Stanford were communicating about Grace&rsquo;s condition and stability as they tried to decide what was best for her. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On January 25th, 2019 Grace&rsquo;s mom posted this:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&ldquo;Friends, our hearts are heavy and hurting. Our girl is in a very critical state. The team here at Cincinnati has nothing left to offer her in terms of active care.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Stanford is still willing to take her, but that will require a lengthy transport that she would need to survive. <\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">At this point she is in a medically induced coma and does not tolerate coming off of the paralytic because of the energy and oxygen her body is expending. <\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The team here believes her heart disease has rapidly progressed (which is baffling to them that it literally happened in an instant) and that is why she is in the state she is.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We need guidance, wisdom and peace. We don&rsquo;t have many words because this kind of situation is something that takes your breath away. It&rsquo;s our baby&rsquo;s life.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Grace, we love you. We&rsquo;re still fighting for you. We&rsquo;re still hoping for you.&rdquo;<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Just a day later they got the call that Stanford was willing to take them. It was amazing! Grace and her dad flew out that night in a medical transport with mom close behind.
