Happy St. Patrick’s Day<\/p>\n

Unfortunately we are celebrating this day from within the walls of the hospital. On Monday, Ryan was admitted with pneumonia which included 16 hr stay in the ICU as a precaution. Thankfully, he quickly turned everything around. He is currently doing well and is recovering quicker than the doctors anticipated. Fingers crossed we heading for discharge this coming week. One positive to come out of all of this is we got to reconnect with many of our heros. We have been able to catch up with many of the Nurses, Techs and RTs that took such great care of Ryan post-transplant. Ryan’s transplant Surgeon and PA even came by just to chat. I cannot tell you how much these people mean to us.<\/span><\/p>\n

This makes Ryan’s 3rd hospital stay since transplant. He has had two overnight stays for observation – once for a previous pneumonia and once for Influenza. The team have come up with some new solutions to prevent pneumonia going forward so we are anxious to put them into practice and see the outcomes.<\/p>\n

Even as we sit here in the hospital we cannot help but feel so grateful for our lives when so many of our friends, family, neighbors and other Nebraskans are dealing with complete devastation. The photos and videos are unimaginable and our hearts are with everyone during this difficult and tragic time.

 6 MONTH TRANSPLANT ANNIVERSARY<\/p>\n

Six months ago Ryan was given the gift of a second chance at life! Once again, we bring you this update from inside the hospital. Ryan was discharged on Saturday and we received a call from the team on late Tuesday that a lab draw showed high levels of potassium in his system and his kidneys were very unhappy. He is on some really heavy antibiotics which are causing all of these issues. We are unable to change the medication as he needs these particular ones to treat the last infection. The course of antibiotics end Monday which can’t come soon enough. In the meantime the safest place for him to be is in the hospital where they can continuously monitor all of his levels and adjust things as needed. He feels good and is in good spirits. We are so grateful for his donor for giving Ryan the chance to experience these last 6 months – rollarcoaster and all. We wouldn’t trade it for anything
