The Docs put one chest tube back in to suction out the air and I am happy to report it is doing its job. The tube may stay in for a few days while Ryan’s lung recovers.

The alternative to this scenario was the Docs would have found it during his outpatient x-ray Thursday and he would have been unexpectedly readmitted into the hospital at that time. We much prefer just hunkering down a little longer.

We are doing good with the news and not letting this take away from all of his achievements so far. Ryan is walking over 2 miles everyday and getting stronger and stronger. We are also happy to get to hang out with our new nurse family a little longer. Yesterday was hard as we said goodbye to several of our favorites. Looks like they cant get rid of us that easy.

Posted 10/24/18 @ 9:37am

Today marks 4 weeks – 4 weeks that Ryan has been in the hospital. Tomorrow will mark 4 weeks post transplant. So what is going on you might ask…

We are still dealing with one stubborn lung. The lung continues to have an air leak and develop pneumothorax. The docs have decided the lung just needs more time to heal from being injured. Ryan still has the chest tube in to suction out the pocket of air and keep the lung inflated.

The doc have given us full confidence that the lung will heal and there are no permanent damage to the new lung(s).

Ryan still feels really good and loves his new lungs. He can breath effortlessly for the first time in life. In fact, I am having trouble keeping up with his new found energy and almost have to speed walk to keep up with him.

We have been given more potential discharge dates than I can keep track of and they have all came and gone. We will to continue to be patient and hold on to all the gifts we have been given. We are anxiously awaiting the day we can go home and have our family back together again. In the meantime I will keep kicking Ryan’s butt in UNO.

Posted on 10/15/18 @ 6:16pm We hoped to be sharing the news that Ryan was being released from the hospital today but that is not the case.
