He was discharged late last week and is staying at the Ronald McDonald House in San Antonio. Here is an update from Alyssa…

Winston has made some improvements with his bowels but is still fluctuating a bit. We are navigating a very delicate balance with his tube feeds, nutrition and hydration but they think he’s at a stable enough baseline to get us out of the hospital and try this next phase again at least for the weekend. They’ll need to take labs more frequently because his liver numbers have been jumping around a bit more with the virus, which means frequent adjustment to anti rejection dosing. We understand there is a very low threshold and high probability we could be admitted again for any number of reasons, but we will keep trying and hope we will get to go home soon if we can stay stable from this point forward.

His energy levels have been way up and he’s really been back to himself, with some extra crazy mood swings thrown in from them having to adjust steroid levels with everything (will taper back down again Monday- we can’t wait! lol)

Winston and the entire nursing staff were all very sad yesterday when it was time to go. He’s been spending more time roaming the floor as a superhero and playing at the nurses’ station than in his room. Everyone there loves him so much. They gave us another sweet send off and lined the hall and cheered as we left.

Getting all of us and everything settled into our tiny room at RmDH has not been easy. We’re all exhausted and having a hard time in our own ways, but we know we will adjust.

Winston is out of the hospital!
