He usually has an automated chest compression vest, and a cough assist machine twice a day. He is unable to use his cough assist and automated chest compression machine following surgery, because the pressure from these machines will damage the stitches placed in during surgery and cause internal bleeding. As a result the doctors and nurses are doing manual chest physical therapy, where the respiratory therapist uses a rubber tool to mimic the compressions. Although TJ had a couple of scares, he was able to remain oxygen free throughout the day. He will go on oxygen and placed on his vent tonight with low pressure to protect his incisions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He was able to work with PT and OT and sit up in the wheelchair for 50 minutes. Our goal for tomorrow is two hours. Tj\u2019s feed was started low, and so far, no discomfort. He has a nasal tube removing stomach acid because he is still unable to eat. Tomorrow they will increase his feed and prayerfully be able to remove the nasal tube. Blood sugars are increased due to feed having some sugar in them. Blood pressure is still within normal range. Tj was eager to get out bed and walk but his little legs were not as strong as he thought. He was cutting his eyes and grumpy today. Hopefully we will have some smiles tomorrow. We look forward to him meeting his physical, nutritional and emotional goals tomorrow.
