Our Story

Cyla, who just turned 16, is a smart, kind, goofy and beautiful Sophomore at Midview High School and is so loved by all those who know her. She is the youngest in a very close knit family with 4 older siblings always looking out for her. Her mom nick-named her ‘Mouse’ because she always made little squeaking noises on her as a baby, she will always be her baby girl no matter how old she gets.

Cyla had just begun her sophomore year at the beginning of September 2024 when her life became forever changed. Cyla went into the hospital and it was determined that she would need an emergency liver transplant after sudden liver failure.

With the help of family, friends and an outpouring of love from her community, a search was on for a liver that would be compatible for Cyla. By a miracle, after 4 days spent in the hospital, a match was found and the doctors worked tirelessly to make the transplant happen.

While the transplant happening so quickly is a complete blessing the road ahead for Cyla may be challenging and she will be on a life-long journey of recovery.

Cyla is in the beginning stages of recovery from surgery and will need all her community to rally behind her. Extended hospital stays, many medical procedures and tests and anti-rejection medication are just a few of the large financial expenses her family will face. To assist with these transplant related expenses, Cyla’s family has made the decision to partner with COTA in honor of Cyla.

The Children’s Organ Transplant Association (COTA) helps children and young adults who need a life-saving transplant by providing fundraising assistance and family support. COTA is the nation’s only fundraising organization solely dedicated to raising life-saving dollars in honor of transplant-needy children and young adults. 100% of each contribution made to COTA in honor of their patients helps meet transplant-related expenses. COTA’s services are free to their families, and gifts to COTA are tax deductible to the fullest extent of the law.

If you have the means to contribute financially to the COTA for Cyla campaign, we are eternally grateful for your generosity!
