Our Story
Hello, my name is Nicole May, but everyone calls me Nikki.
This will be my third kidney transplant. I was diagnosed with a rare disease called focal Segmental Glomerulosclerosis (FSGS), and I have already received two previous kidney transplants.
In the past, funds were raised for COTA to assist with transplant related expenses totaling $57,200. Those funds were used to assist with transplant related expenses during my previous two transplants. COTA has truly been a blessing in my life and throughout my transplant journey. Over the years, this disease has simply become a part of my life. I have learned that the only way through it is to stay strong in faith and surrounded by love.
I am incredibly blessed with my husband and his two children, who have become my heart and my motivation. They inspire me every single day to keep fighting.
Right now, I attend dialysis three times a week and make sure to stay on top of all my doctor appointments so I can remain active on the donor list. Each day is a battle, and this upcoming transplant will be the last one my body can have. I pray this will be the start of a new beginning for me and my family.
With COTA and your continued support, I am hopeful this dream can become a reality. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for standing by me through this journey.
With gratitude,
Nicole “Nikki” May
The Children’s Organ Transplant Association (COTA) helps children and young adults who need a life-saving transplant by providing fundraising assistance and family support. COTA is the nation’s only fundraising organization solely dedicated to raising life-saving dollars in honor of transplant-needy children and young adults. 100% of each contribution made to COTA in honor of our patients helps meet transplant-related expenses. COTA’s services are free to our families, and gifts to COTA are tax deductible to the fullest extent of the law.
