three weeks and counting

Porter and I have been here in Houston a little over three weeks now and it feels like we’ve been here forever.  Porter has been weaned off the adivan and still has just a slight bit to go on the methadone and then he’ll be off the sedation meds.  He was a little more uncomfortable this weekend and having some higher heart rates so they gave him small doeses of the adivan to help settle him out.  It seemed to work.  I had asked the team when Porter would be getting another echo and the resident came by and said they would do one right before we went home, I kindly let her know that I wanted one done this week.  I let her know that with Porter’s history there was no way we were going to wait until right before going home to have an echo done.  The cardiology fellow came by yesterday and said she felt Porter should have an echo today or tomorrow.  I’m waiting to hear a definite time for a family meeting but hopefully it will be Wed or Thursday.

They have increased Porter’s calories to 30Kcal/per hour and instead of continuous feeds he is getting his food over a two hour time frame and so far tolerating it well.  If he tolerates the increase in calories then they’ll try to give it over 1 1/2 hours tomorrow.
