I have had many people ask where Daniel gets his courage and strength when going through something like this. Those that are closet to Daniel know that he will say “My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth” Psalm 121:2 He firmly believes in the Sovereignty of God in All Things. It should be no surprise because before he was born we looked at names from the bible and for Tina and I Daniel stood out as one who completely trusted in God. His name means “God is my …Judge”.
In Daniel chapter three Shadrach, Meschach, and Abednego refuse to bow to the king’s image and their response to the king’s threat of the fiery furnace was …”O Nebuchanezzar, we have no need to answer you in this matter. If it be so, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the fiery furnace, and he will deliver us out of your hand, O king. But if not, be it known to you, O king, that we will not serve your gods or worship the golden image that you have set up”. In this passage these men have full trust in God’s ability to deliver them but recognize that it might not be His will.
In the same way, Daniel, in chapter six continues to pray despite a new law forbidding him from praying. He faces the consequences of disobeying the law which is the lions den but is spared by God. Once king Darius sees the power of Daniel’s God he proclaims that Daniel’s God “…is the living God, enduring forever; his kingdom shall never be destroyed, and his dominion shall be to the end…” Daniel has a favorite Christian group called Kutless and they have a song called “Even If” and the words are full of truth about God that can be found in His word:
