Night Moves

Hello friends,

Lindsey had a bit of a rough night last night, experiencing side effects of Thymoglobulin, an immune-suppresant drug. She had a headache, dizziness, and sweating (but no fever). The team has assured us this is all very common and expected. They gave her Tylenol and Benadryl which helped a bit. Lindsey also had a lot of leakage from where one of her drains had been – gauze was taped over the site but that didn’t do nearly enough, and she woke up in a puddle. The nurses decided to replace the gauze with an ostomy bag taped around the drain site, so it won’t leak, and that has been a big improvement.

Fortunately, last night was the last planned dose of Thymo, so we are hoping for a better night tonight.

The daytime today was much better. Today’s highlight is that with the help of a nurse and a patient care tech, Lindsey was able to take a shower, wash her hair, and even shave! She felt sooooo much better afterward. I made an attempt at french braiding her hair afterward, which I’m sure would not be satisfactory on a normal day but it’s not bad for an out-of-practice skating mom. 🙂

Since she’s had a shower and fresh clothes now, (drum roll please….) may I present an actual photo of her face!!!

In other news, we found a cute little brunch place across the street from the hospital and picked up breakfast this morning. I made a bad decision (given my former diabetic status) to go with a “Nutella Love” crepe. I paid for it later, but I. Regret. Nothing! Yummm!

Tonight Mike made a trek to the closest Olive Garden, which many of you know is Lindsey’s favorite restaurant. It’s also her common “get back to eating real food after being sick” meal. Mission accomplished – she ate all 4 eggplant pieces. We are hoping this is a bridge to more substantial eating.

Today’s note of gratitude goes out to Pammy Farber, Chris and Tania Hoosang, and Maddy and Norman Abood, as well as one very generous anonymous donor.
