01/11/2024 Update – Battling Infections

Jaxon has had a rough morning.

They stopped some sedation medications, and he became extremely irate. They decided it’d be best to put him back on the medication which in turn made him extremely sleepy and therefore he needed additional oxygen due to his sleep apnea.

They also completed a CT w/contrast of his lungs. This showed the pulmonary embolisms previously seen have slightly decreased in size. He had some drainage over night for his current central line in his groin.

So, they removed that and cultured it. They also completed an ultrasound of the area to look for abscesses. They were able to complete an echo of his heart today. I loved watching it! Cardiologist said the heart is working beautifully and they couldn’t be happier with it.

The ICU doctor also sat down and talked to Adam and I and explained each scenario for extubation as well as the pros and cons of each. As much as I want him off of it, I know it’s better to be safe than sorry.

After the course of events today, the ICU doctor, cardiologist, and vascular surgeon decided not to extubate him. So, we just have to take one day at a time. We will try again for tomorrow. They were also able to remove the digni-care as well. Which I guarantee he is happy about.

Jaxon still communicates with yes/no questions and by hand gestures that we’ve taught him. They are keeping him pretty sedated tonight to try to get his lungs an extra push prior to extubation.

Please continue to pray for Jaxon’s strength, God to heal him, and wisdom for the team treating him.

Love, Niki & Adam
