12/2023 Update – South Omaha Strong!

Last night was the first time since December 5th that I was away from Jaxon. Man was it hard emotionally. But it was good to get a full night’s sleep. This was all thanks to Live on Nebraska.

They contacted the OPO here in St. Louis and we were able to get a place that will allow us to be 10 minutes from the hospital. I can’t thank them enough. Special thank you to Steph Spreitzer-Kephart for facilitating this. I am beyond grateful for you! Like you said, South O strong! Jaxon is doing good this morning. He is still on LVAD and RVAD, ventilator, and dialysis.

However, he is sleeping peacefully, and his kidneys are starting to produce urine. So, they’ll update us on how long before they can stop dialysis and give his kidneys a try to see if they have fully recovered. His lungs are looking better, and they’ve gotten a lot of fluid out of him. Slow and steady. The nephrologist yesterday said he doesn’t think there will permanent damage to his kidneys but only time will tell.

As for his liver, they have given plasma to help the liver with producing the needed nutrient that helps with blood clotting. Again-only time will tell. They were able to stop the oxygenator on the RVAD. So, baby steps. A special shout out the staff at Ashland Park Robbins. They have been so kind and thoughtful throughout this process.

Also, a thankful you to my coworkers…. We live completely different lives (seriously most live on the east coast). However, you all do anything you can to help us during this time. We truly appreciate you all! Thank you to everyone who has donated money to COTA in honor of Jaxon, time, items for the COTA spaghetti feed and auction, and the emails and texts. This has helped to keep us going!

Thank you all for your continued prayers. We need these more than anything at this time.

Love, Niki & Adam
