Update 4/13/21

Week two has been a better one.  He didn’t quite graduate PICU as early as we originally thought, and he won’t be discharged from the hospital as early as originally thought either, but we’ve realized that’s okay.  Aidan is down to one IV and the IV fluids keep being decreased- which is great.  His blood pressure is still high, but they are working on controlling it through medication.  Urine output has continued to decrease as well, which means his kidney is adjusting to his own body.  His appetite is coming back and he is so much more mobile and independent than last week.  He’s silly with his sister on facetime and he doesn’t have too many defeated moments either. But this morning, while getting ready for an ultrasound, he started to cry when he saw the wheelchair.  “I know how to walk”, he said.  It’s moments like this that still get him.  It’s hard for a kiddo who didn’t ever feel sick to go through such a major surgery and recovery and face so many limitations suddenly.  Road to recovery is a bumpy one!  But there isn’t a doubt in our mind he’ll continue to face all these challenges with a smile (most times) and and continue to crush them.  When he gets real sassy we joke that my kidney must be acting up in there!

Ella misses Aidan so much she told him she didn’t want to fight with him ever again… I wonder how long that will last.  Ha! She is back in the city with us and happy to be here!  Yesterday I took my first walk outside of the hospital with Ella to American Girl and Ryan and her went sight seeing.  She’s struggling more with leaving us now, but I hope these special moments make up for them.

We all look forward to discharge.  They are hoping by the end of the week his blood pressure will improve and he can come off IV fluids and the Browns can head home!
