I genuinely cannot believe it has been a month.  And not because a month seems long but because it doesn’t seem long enough.  So much has happened and changed in such a short time.  It is amazing to think about.. my kidney is now Aidan’s kidney.  It’s adjusting to his little body and allowing him to eat the foods he’s missed and to grow (each follow-up appointment he has grown taller).  He’s no loner anemic and his calcium, phosphorous and potassium are all within normal.. to name a few.  But he is also still dealing with so much for an 8 year old.  Aidan takes on average 21 pills every day, he receives 2 blood draws each week and takes in all the information at each clinic appointment.  He can recite his laundry list of meds and tell you why he needs them.  He rocks his fluid intake of 64 ounces/day.  So much so that his kidney team told him he was “first place” for their April kiddos!  He knows the perfect seated position and how to put on his blood pressure cuff for us to monitor his blood pressure at home because it is still high.  He is a rock star, a warrior, the definition of resilience.  But that doesn’t take away the gravity of all of this and the heaviness it has.  

Currently we are on pins and needles for the next week.  Aidan’s creatinine jumped up.  On Monday it was still elevated, but stable.  His kidney team will decide in the next week if they need to biopsy his kidney, because this could be a sign of rejection.  It could also be from an incresaed level of his anti rejection medicine…and that is what we are hoping for.  

With all of that being said, today we celebrate.  Aidan for being nothing short of our hero.  Ella for being the most thoughtful, caring sister.  Lurie’s for… well, everything.  And our support system for holding us up when we can’t stand on our own.  And last but not least… his new kidney.  <3
