I know it’s been awhile since our last update… Things have been pretty stable for Aidan for weeks now and we have been enjoying that, along with all things summer.  His activity restrictions were finally lifted June 5, so he has enjoyed the trampoline and water slide again.  The kids just started a basketball skills class and will start up swim lessons again next week.  Aidan has gained nearly 5 pounds since transplant (which is huge compared to the one pound in the YEAR leading up to it).  He has an echo next week, as his blood pressure is still high, but other than that he has been amazing.  

Thursday at clinic they noticed his tonsils were swollen and tested him for strep and EBV (what causes mono).  Since then his tonsils have gotten worse, more swollen, white patches and it’s hurting quite a bit to swallow.  Yesterday they told us a low level of copies of EBV were detected for the first time in Aidan.  This is something they’ve monitored for since the beginning because Aidan has never been exposed prior and unfortunately him receiving a kidney that was already positive for EBV can cause problems once his body detects it. So here we are, lowering tacro (his anti rejection drug- scary enough in itself) in hopes his little body can start to fight off the EBV.  They told us Tylenol to help while it runs it’s course.  For us the scary things are; not being able to stay hydrated because of the pain with swallowing (which will earn him a hospital stay with IV fluids), lowering his meds that his kidney depends on and watching him in pain for who knows how long.  So please say extra prayers for our little man over the next few days/weeks.  Thanks everyone for all the support and prayers!  And happy Father’s Day to all!
