April Updates For Amari

Hey there, everyone! April has been quite a busy month for our little hero, Amari, and his amazing family. Let me catch you up on what’s been happening in their world lately.

First off, let’s celebrate some victories! Amari, our basketball-loving warrior, has been defying the odds with his growth. With Amari having kidney failure, he has a growth deficiency. He’s been on growth hormones for 8 months now & has officially hit 2.75 feet! With warmer weather on the horizon, Amari and his family are eagerly looking forward to outdoor playtime and bike rides – a well-deserved break from hospital visits and appointments.

However, it hasn’t all been smooth sailing on the health front. Amari’s recent tests have revealed elevated liver enzymes, possibly indicating an infection in his bile ducts. This has led to scheduled procedures including an MRI and a biopsy, scheduled for May 1st. There is a glimmer of hope, his blood pressure is finally under control after a year-long struggle!

They are working on doing a follow up with the doctors in Cincinnati to determine if they will have the transplant out there. Mom is wanting to know how it would look for Amari prior to surgery. With Cincinnati being over 3 & 1/2 hours away she needs to know how often they will need to be out there prior to. She is trying to understand how much more will be on their plate. They’ve already had 16 appointments this month & they still have a few more scheduled for this week.

They haven’t had much time for anything else outside of appointments and trying to sleep. Mom is hoping May will slow down just a little bit so they can find some time to go out and enjoy life. Some more good news is Amari is being featured in the 24 and 24 fundraiser with the Make a Wish foundation. The event will take place in October and gives Amari the chance to have one of his wishes come true.

Some more positive news is the first outing to Cilantro Taqueria to support COTA for Amari went amazing. We had a total of 68 people come out to eat which raised $450. To see so many people show up wearing their Amari shirts was so heart warming. His team is currently trying to come up with some creative ideas for the next event. We can’t thank everyone enough who took the time to place an order.

To everyone who has followed, donated to COTA for Amari’s Journey, or simply offered a kind word along the way, the family extends their deepest gratitude. It’s your support that keeps them going through the toughest of times. Their journey wouldn’t be possible without the kindness of loved ones and organizations like COTA.

As Amari continues his brave journey, there’s one thing that remains constant – the unwavering support of people like you.
