Amelia’s Journey

Starting in 2019 Amelia was tasked with the burden of kidney failure. No child should ever have to go through this, but Amelia was able to be so strong. Through dialysis every night, not being able to spend a night away from home, not being able to go swimming, being restricted from activities all kids should be able to do: she endured. While there were some very rough times, late night hospital visits, and desperate feelings of uncertainty, she finally got what she desperately needed: a kidney transplant.

This last June of 2021 Amelia received a long awaited kidney. Of course that is only the beginning of the journey. Organ transplants are high risk surgeries with an even higher risk of organ rejection. It will be a while before her and her family are confident that her body will not reject the kidney. Regardless, she has had her first opportunities to camp outside with her family, go swimming, and not have to be plugged into a machine all night. Her drive, excitement, and strength to begin the rest of her life has been amazing to witness.

Amelia is still fighting for her life, but in a new and different way. COTA’s assistance with raising funds for transplant related expenses is still in effect and needed. We need all the support we can get so COTA can assist with a lifetime of expenses associated with Amelia’s transplant and continuing treatment. In this regard, we are so thankful for all those that have shown immense support to the COTA for Amelia Strong campaign!

There will be updates coming soon about how Amelia is doing and about events to show support!

We are so grateful to COTA, friends, and family for their continued support and look forward to the community events that are coming soon.
